Car Wash

Benjamin loves the car wash. I had to go get the car washed yesterday, but just as we were leaving, Benjamin's friend invited him over to play.

He missed the car wash.

Because 3 year olds don't understand the concept of delayed gratification (nor do most adults, for that matter).

The car wash was forgotten until bed time, at which point Benjamin started screaming at the top of his lungs that he wanted to go to the car wash. (Similar to the daily tantrums he throws about wanting a spaceship, wanting to go on an airplane, wanting to get some roller skates, wanting to wear an up-sleeved shirt, etc.)

He was sobbing face down on his bed, and Sam walked over to him, tried to give him a hug, then proceeded to tell him that, "Car wash, scary, agggghhhh! Sam crying." When he didn't respond, she came to me and said, "Gus crying. No go car wash." When Luke went in a few minutes later to beat, I mean, calm Gus down, Sam kept going back and forth from Gus' room to mine, giving me updates, "Gus all done. No car wash. Gus crying. Aggghh! Scary car wash."

It cracked me up that she was so worried about her brother, and even tried to tell him that he didn't want to go to the car wash because it's scary. It made me laugh that she kept reassuring me, or more likely reassuring herself, that we weren't going to the carwash again. I love hearing every day the new words and phrases that she says, and how she is starting to really put things together. Love it!

Great story! They do grow up too fast. I just have to remind myself from time to time. ;)
